We have various options for our queen conversions. These beds are currently set for a full sized bed, however, most of our beds are wide enough for a queen mattress but just not long enough. Queen conversions can be done on almost all of our beds. The wider the bed, the better the queen conversion will look, but all can be accommodated.
A full sized bed is 54-55" wide and 74-75" long. A queen sized bed is 60" wide and 80" long.
We have been converting our full beds to queens for many years and do convert about 95% of our beds to queens for our customers. We offer different options for converting our beds.
Our most popular process is the one below.
1. We use your original bed rails, adding wood to the side rails towards the headboard and this gives you an 80" length for a queen mattress. This does not take away from the integrity of the antique because we do not cut in to the side rail. It can be changed back at any time by a professional woodworker of your choice. We then we add a heavy iron on the inside of the rails that are custom bent for each bed. This process adds the support for your mattress and box spring. The rails then bolt back into the headboard and footboard allowing a queen mattress to fit your bed. Most of our beds are wide enough for a queen, just not long enough. If they are not wide enough, then we will also add wood to the sides of the rails going out about 1 inch or so on each side. That wood is stained to match as much as possible and add some trim if deemed necessary, and this is also supported with iron.
When your bed is completed and set up as a queen, the only place that shows where the conversion is would be on the very corners and your linens taper down at that area to cover the conversion area. This process is $265.00 and our customers are very pleased with this process, making it our preferred conversion.
2. We also have another custom process that is $775.00 which is a masterfully carved new set of wooden rails for your conversion. 95% of our customers use the $265.00 conversions and are very pleased.
3. If you choose, also, you can purchase a queen conversion kit from any furniture/mattress store for about $65.00 which will allow you to convert the bed to a queen size and not use the original side rails.
4. If you prefer not to use the original side rails, then for $165.00 we can make an extra set of iron rails to accommodate your queen size mattress. Then you can save the wooden rails and use them at a later time to convert your bed back to a full size.
Thank you and we do hope that this explains our conversion process well.
